59For patients that have a very high anxiety level or have a difficult time cooperating, IV sedation may be an option to complete necessary dental treatment. Dr. Matt will consider the necessity of the dental treatment as well as your child’s behavior and medical history to make sure that IV sedation is appropriate.

IV sedation is completed in-office and is a deep sedation. As always your child’s safety is our top priority and we work with only the best Nurse Anesthetists to manage the sedation and to ensure that your child will be fully monitored and that all safety precautions are taken.

Your child is given a dose of sedative medication in the waiting room and will be unaware as they are brought to the treatment area and an IV is placed. At this point another thorough exam and any necessary dental x-rays are taken to ensure that all necessary treatment is planned and discussed with you as the parent. All your child’s treatment will then be completed in that single appointment with them asleep, not remembering any of the treatment. Recovery after the procedure usually takes about 30-45 minutes with you by your child’s side. Once they meet appropriate criteria, you can return to the comfort of your own home.

Please discuss with Dr. Matt all your concerns and questions about IV sedation. If you would like to have your child evaluated for a possible sedation, please do not hesitate to contact us.
