We encourage all parents to bring their children to the dentist by age 1. Many people think this is early and it is! The reasoning behind an early visit is to begin prevention in the office and at home before any preventable oral conditions develop and to help ensure life-long oral health.
At the first visit we will lean your child back and complete a thorough visual exam. For the very young this usually done in a “knee to knee” position so your child can sit on your lap and be comforted during the entire exam. Depending on necessity, age, and behavior we may also perform a tooth cleaning, dental x-rays and fluoride treatment. This is a great opportunity to ask all the questions you have about your children’s oral health.
Many parent’s stress about how their children will behave at the dentist. Please don’t worry!! All children respond to a visit to the dentist differently and we have extensive experience with all sorts of behavior. We design everything at JPD make the best experience possible for your child.
To prepare your child for their visit to the dentist we encourage parents to use only “happy words”. You can play dentist at home by having your children lean back while you “count” their teeth. Making fun games that mimic going to the dentist will help your child respond well to their exam and other procedures.
We hope to be the “dental home” for your children and to be a great resource to help you raise happy and healthy kids.
